FNC is a suitable process for parts that need enhanced corrosion resistance, or that will experience higher levels of sliding wear, such as firearms, cages for bearings and tools.
Our Quality Policy
When your parts are heat treated by MSI, in salt, they are always processed at the proper temperature, for the proper amount of time. If vacuum furnace heat treated, they could be combined with other customers’ work at a compromised temperature and/or for a compromised length of time.

Salt Bath Ferritic Nitrocarburizing (FNC)
A surface treatment (1) or (2) step process. One forming a thin hard compound layer and diffusion zone composed of nitrides, which increase wear resistance. If chosen, the second oxidizing step forms magnetite on the surface of the compound zone, which enhances corrosion resistance.
Carburizing
Carburizing is often used to restore or enhance the percentage of carbon in steel for the purpose of increasing its hardenability.
Annealing
Annealing is a process of heat treatment that changes the microstructure of a material to modify its properties. In steels, annealing is used to reduce hardness, increase ductility, and help eliminate internal stresses.
Straightening
Whether straightening before, during, or after processing, MSI utilizes options ranging from hand-held and pneumatic peening hammers to a 16-ton Eitel hydraulic press.
Testing
From non-destructive superficial hardness testing to full metallographic study destructive testing, MSI offers a number of in-house and outside lab assisted testing options.
